Last night Marple Athletic were invited to attend the Cheshire FA Grassroots Football Awards 2024. The purpose was to celebrate the contributions made by over 5000 volunteers and the impact they have on young people.

We were so delighted to see that Marple Athletic Junior Football Club had 2 nominations that made it to the final.

Firstly, Iain Wood (“Woody”) received a nomination for his contribution in supporting female football pathways. Woody manages one of our under 13 girls teams alongside Leon Kelly. It was parents who nominated him for making football so accessible for all players irrespective of background or ability. Well done Woody!!

Then we come to Sharon Humphries our club secretary. Sharon won an award for Changing Lives Through Football. She was nominated by the County FA for this award, highlighting “Sharon’s passion, dedication and hard work has been exemplary over many years, creating opportunities for all”. I think it is fair to say that this award is thoroughly deserved. Great job Sharon!!

Congratulations to both of our winners Iain and Sharon and thanks to all of our volunteers for their work in making a difference to young people lives.
